　　Die Kelten glaubten fest daran, dass die Seelen der Verstorbenen in der Nacht vom 31. Oktober als Geister auf die Erde zurückkommen, um in ihre Huser zurückzukehren. Aber was war mit den Geistern und heimatlosen Seelen, die trotz der groen Feuer, die am Wegesrand entfacht wurden, den Weg nicht fanden und verzweifelt umherirrten? Von ihnen war nichts Gutes zu erwarten, sie spukten durch die Nacht, erschreckten friedliche Menschen und trieben ihr Unwesen mit ihnen.

　　幾百年后，大約公元800年的時候，羅馬教皇將11月1日，也就是10月31日后一天，作為“萬圣”之節，在這一天人們會懷念基督教的烈士。隨著時間的推移，英國人根據薩溫節就把11月1日的前夜變成了慶祝萬圣的節日，而英語里萬圣夜稱作“All Hallows’ Evening”，簡稱Hallows’ E’en。漸漸地我們就把萬圣節叫做了Halloween。
